book section: “Visio Dei: Vera ikon und der spiegel” (2020)

Dr. Carolin Rinn wrote her dissertation, Zwischen Erinnerung und Heilsvermittlung: Visualität und Medialität der mittelalterlichen Pilgerzeichen aus Aachen und Canterbury, under the supervision of Markus Späth and Silke Tammen at Justus-Liebig-Universität Gießen. Carolin spoke previously in an interview with Dr. Ann Marie Rasmussen about mirror badges from Aachen and agreed to share a section of her book on the Vera Icon and the mirror.

We thank both Carolin Rinn and Peter Lang Verlag for giving us permission to publish this section of the book on our website. A high-resolution image of the badge featured in this book section is displayed beneath the PDF, courtesy of Monuments and Archaeology, City of Amsterdam.
